SHORT VERSION: These are fantastic speakers, period. This will blow away any soundbars under 50k. The midrange is awesome with great vocals, the titanium tweeters are great and really shines in movies with action scenes and gun fires. And those of you who are worried about bass, trust me, the bass is plenty, tight and punchy. I have a dedicated 12 inch JBL subwoofer that I generally connect with one of my soundbar and initially thought of connecting it with this Edifier but I don’t have to anymore, the bass is plenty and enough even at default setting.FULL REVIEW (Please read if you are looking to buy this speaker):So I have been using Harman Kardon SoundSticks III for music and some soundbars from JBL, Sony and even the cheapest Mi TV soundbar for movies. I use these speakers with my PC/Laptops and TVs. The soundbars are connected to TVs and the SoundSticks are connected to PC/Laptops depending on what I use. The SoundSticks are great but they lack midrange, the soundbars are loud and clear but they also lack midrange and sound tinny. All these speakers have subwoofers except the Mi TV soundbar so I use an old car subwoofer, 12 inch JBL with it by connecting via external DAC that has optical output to soundbar and RCA output to subwoofer. So I began my search for a speaker system to use it with my PC, something that has great midrange and vocals.I did a lot of research, listened to a lot of comparison videos on youtube and read many speaker reviews. My search ended up with Edifier S350DB and S1000MKII under my budget of 30k. I learned that in order to produce good midrange and good vocals you need a large and good quality woofer driver. Tiny woofer drivers will produce tinny sound. Soundbars at max have 2.5 inch size driver thats why they have “tinny” sound in comparison to 5.5 inch drivers of Edifier S1000MKII or any bookshelf speakers that uses such large drivers. Note that soundbars generally have 4 to 6 of these tiny 2.5 inch drivers, this increase in number is for their overall loudness. Even if you put 10 of these 2.5 inch drivers together they will sound incredibly loud but still can’t produce midrange of one single 5.5 inch driver. That’s why expensive 5.1 home theater setups from Klipsch, Yamaha, JBL, etc have large 5 inches and above drivers in their center channel, front LR speakers and rear speakers. This led me to choose S1000MKII over S350DB, because its physics, a 5.5 inch aluminium driver of S1000MKII will obviously produce better vocals than the 3.5 inch paper driver of S350DB. S1000’s sound is more forward and livelier than S350DB’s sound that’s why it sounds like treble is more pronounced in S1000 when you listen to the comparison videos in youtube. It only sounds like that because its a recorded video, not like what you hear in real life. The mid range and vocals of S1000 is so good that watching live music videos and movies is such a wonderful experience that neither the S350DB can match nor any soundbar can deliver at this price point. When I received the speakers, I played it via Bluetooh/RCA. Out of the box the speakers sounded a little flat, so I increased the bass dial by +2 and it sounded great. I don’t have a good quality DAC to test it with, the DAC that I use is a cheap Rs 4,000 DAC whose purpose is just to split source audio into Optical out and RCA out. Now the magic happened for me when I connected the speakers via Optical out instead of Bluetooth/RCA. With optical the sound has more detail and sounds more fuller. I don’t have to set the bass dial to +2 anymore with optical connection, there is plenty of bass at default setting. Bass is tight and punchy and extends really well. It is more punchy than the dedicated 6 inch subwoofer of my SoundSticks III. I even connected the 12 inch JBL subwoofer to test it with and my God, its such an overkill. Literally shakes every door and glass windows in my room. Its such an overkill that I disconnected it after playing a couple of songs. For bass heads that really like killer bass, I suggest you to pair these speakers with 8 inch active subwoofer, 12 inches is overkill. Me personally, I don’t need extra subwoofer anymore because these sound perfect on its own. Finally I found the perfect speaker that sounds great at default setting. My next sight is set on S3000Pro.Now the Reliability part, the first set of speakers that I received were defective. The right side active speaker’s woofer driver was making a crackling distortion even at low to medium volumes. I believe the built-in amplifier was defective and was clipping the driver. My replacement arrived today and so far as my testing, there is no defect, will keep my fingers crossed. These are fantastic set of speakers. Edifier can definitely deliver quality, they just need to improve their reliability. If they can improve it, I will gladly buy their S3000Pros with eyes closed. For now, I’m a little sceptical.

I ordered a stereo pair of Edifier S1000MKII Active Bookshelf Speakers from Amazon on 12th February 2023 and they were delivered promptly on the 15th.Packaging was substantial “Box in a Box” similar to many high end manufacturers like Audio Research. I am nearly 80 years old and had to call my son to help me with unpacking and positioning of the speakers on either side of my Television. After almost 40 years of HiFi using Stax F83 & Magnepan MGIIA speakers driven by Tube amps, I am looking ahead to a TV centric system in my old age! I am no longer agile to flip the LP over and drop the needle every so often.Edifiers out of the box was not a pleasant affair. These speakers need about a month (playing 3 to 5 hrs per day @83-85dB) to break-in. After this period, The slight veiling was gone and it took some fiddling of the Treble and Bass controls to reset the vocal output to my liking. At present I have the Treble control at (all viewed from the rear) 9’Oclock and the bass control at 8′ Oclock. These positions are Treble cut and bass cut. The volume control also serves to enrich the richness of the voice. I cannot judge the absolute character of the speaker because most of the media as well as music programs these days are compressed. My tastes are for a rich and luscious vocals. I can achieve this with the Tone and Volume controls. I would have preferred a better transient response from these speakers. Perhaps there is too much signal processing inside the speaker box. I would also have preferred a Class AB amplifier.VALVEMAN

As someone who enthused over “high fi” speakers in the 1950s, I’m accustomed to prices that are much higher than these top-rated Edifier transducers, which look sexy and sound smoother than their edgy appearance. My first AR2, or Henry Kloss speaker (also, KLH, Advent, Tivoli) was almost $200 for a single speaker, and my JBL Athena speakers (high efficiency West Coast sound, with a 14″ woofer) cost twice that–for a modest-looking, unobtrusive bookshelf speaker with a lattice wood grill). These Edifier S1000’s understandably impressed the reviewers (“Consumer Reports”), who placed them ahead of dozens of more expensive speakers. As an audio “purist” who listens to classical music and jazz, my “snobbish” preference is for non-amplifed, “passive” JBL Athena’s and Wharfdale’s over a powered unit. I was tempted to bring a favorite existing speaker into the living room for use with a TV screen, until questions about placement of amplifier, turntable, albums, etc. led me to look to the convenience of powered speakers with Bluetooth connectivity. Although I hear more natural and realistic piano sounds in my preferred speakers, these powerful Edifiers are superior for movie soundscapes and large orchestral settings. They may not be “quite” as satisfying as very good “passive” speakers, but the convenience, practicality and value made purchase of the Edifier 1000’s a no-brainer decision. When not screening (or streaming) movies, I’m listening to jazz recordings on which I’m attentive to the ring of the ride cymbal and the “chic” of the high hat along with pitch-identifiable “walking bass” sounds. Most speakers simply don’t capture the force of Art Blakey’s drums or the pulse and interplay of Joe Morello’s kit. Active speakers simply aren’t “tuned” to bring out these sounds, and my passive JBL’s simply do a better job in capturing and representing these frequencies as we experience them “in nature.”Nevertheless, I’m happy to keep these Edifier powered speakers for my home theater and symphony recordings — especially now that I’ve finally begun to solve the problem of BLUETOOTH transmitting ONLY to the left (“passive”) speaker. With wired connections–from a player or TV set (using optical cable)–the sound from the Edifier S1000 is strong in both speakers. But when transmitting wirelessly thru Bluetooth (I tried 3 differ iPhones), audio was going to only one speaker. If I were unable to find a fix, I’d return these and try a Bose Soundlink Flex speaker (the reviews are most compelling, and I was amazed by the Bose Soundlink Mini that my wife brought home as part of her deal for a new iPhone). Previously, NBA games on my big Samsung TV were so noisy that the announcers’ voices were inaudible for much of the game. Her Bose speaker arrived with its own “internal intelligence,” which muted the crowd noise and made the play-by-play come through loud and clear.Edifier is located in China, and I assumed response, if any, would be slow and minimal. To my surprise, a tech person at Edifier immediately answered by question about a channel drop-out. His questions in turn led me back to my iPhone, which revealed that the AT&T store had transferred my old and damaged iPhone unto its replacement, an iPhone 13. Since practically all of my players and transmitters had been corrupted by the “genetic flaw” inherited from the damaged phone, I could give Edifier a pass only after proving that the speakers were capable of reproducing a Bluetooth signal accurately, with each speaker representing the audio information unique to its channel. Finally, I convinced a tech-inclined friend that the problem, in all likelihood, was not with the speakers or with my overly fastidious, demanding temperament. He brought a phone that had not absorbed any of the bad karma in my iPhones, and by using its Bluetooth we determined that the Edifiers were up to speed–violins from left channel; cellos and bass fiddles from right channel; the conductor and the listener right in between these 2 unique sources for a satisfying, accurate, and most realistic soundstage. (Leonard Bernstein’s / Stephen Spielberg’s “West Side Story” never sounded better!)In conclusion, Edifier is #1–for this speaker and for its responsiveness to consumers’ questions. But, finally, I’ve got to absolve the iPhone from blame. As the character from Shakespeare’s “Julius Caesar” says: “The fault lies not with the stars–not even with Apple or Steve Jobs–but with the distracted dude who allows his iPhone to squirt out of his hands and fall to the cement floor below–not once but repeatedly.”

Was privileged enough to get to experience music when it was purely Monophonic and then experience the introduction of Stereo sound in all its wonderful variations. Through all of it all music was enjoyed through a stereo amp/receiver, a quality turntable and a pair of high-end speakers. Then unfortunately came the advent of digital sound, Bluetooth and the introduction and acceptance of freestanding all-in-one speakers. Sadly, gone was the thrill of right and left channel stereo separation. These Edifer MK1000MKII bring back the joy of listening to music as it was produced in the recording studio and meant to be listened to. Whether your cup of tea is Classical or Heavy Metal this pair of speakers provide a great sound that harkens back to the golden age of high-end stereos. Will not go into the minutiae of highs, midrange and bass as listening preferences are subjective and vary from one individual to the next.Bottomline: the speakers were delivered quicker than expected, were easy to set up, offered a variety of connection configurations and provided trouble free Bluetooth connections. So far I have used them to listen to music directly (USB-C to RCA) from my Mac and stream music via Bluetooth from my iPhone, MacBook, vintage iPod and even an old Samsung cellphone I use as an MP3 “player”.Highly recommend these speakers if you’re into listening to music the way your favorite artists intended you to hear it.

Bought these to pair with an Audio-technica record player and was amazed at the sound. Then I was even more amazed after connecting them to my PC over bluetooth and playing UltraHD music on the Amazon Music app. I though the Klipach THX speakers on my PC sounded good…. I no longer think that, the difference is mind blowing.

I am an audiophile who has a few thousand dollars invested in audio equipment between my home sound system and my automobile. I bought these to upgrade my classroom from a smaller set of Edifer speakers. I was pleasantly surprised at the clarity and sound quality of these speakers. I have a larger than normal classroom (30’x40′) and they fill the space well with sound even at lower volumes. These will be great for someone with a limited budget or who just doesn’t want huge speakers in their living room.

I’ve only recently started going out to shows, and have been thoroughly disappointed by how different bands and artists sound from the studio.I always wanted to try my hand at good home speakers, but they have usually been out of my price range and required some setup. I have been using a Sony Xb43, and it sounds like having a funeral. Muddy and somehow tinny midrange, the bass from the passive radiators has always been one note and bloated. I’ve noticed the more I crank the volume, the more flat the bass sounds. I wanted some real bass, not this pressure valve that makes the speaker bloat out garbage.I’ve never had a good set of speakers in my life, take that as you will, and I was ready for something that actually felt like a performance. That’s where these babies absolutely sing. I have never in my life imagined a more complete, beautiful sound coming from speakers. The intricacies are there from the drummer lightly hitting the sticks on the snare rim, to the artist breathing in for the next verse. There’s a silkiness to it that makes it sound lifelike. A transparency that almost makes me think that a person is just speaking a couple feet away from me. It doesn’t sound like a speaker, it sounds like a performance. And like a good performance, I can’t help but to just give it my undivided attention sometimes and get distracted from whatever I need to do.I am absolutely excited for the many memories I will have with this speaker. My only regret is not buying them sooner.
