Pros+ The world and the graphics look absolutely amazing, just breathtaking+ World building and main story are quite good and detailed.+ Amount of machines and characters are incredibly high.+ Amount of weapons and its variants are very nice.+ Facial animations and animations in general look great.+ It is a huge game, if you are planning to finish every side quest, game can easily last 70-80 hours.Cons:- Main character Aloy is stupid, narcissistic and annoying, she is the least interesting thing in the whole game.- Melee combat is absolutely horrendous, just stick to ranged combat.- Many side quests last unnecessary long.- Camera cannot keep up when fighting against big machines.- Some machines movements are very jerky and unrealistic looking.- Climbing mechanics are also jerky and inconsistent. There are almost no distinctions between which rock is climbable and which one is not. R3 spam is necessary.- There are many invisible walls you bump into. That is a big design flaw.In conclusion, even though there are many flaws in this game, I must say I liked it a lot. So, if you are planning to get one, just get it when it is on sale.

An outstanding game in so many ways and one I’m very happy to have in my collection. I would give the first game in the series (Zero Dawn) a 5-star rating; here’s why Forbidden West only gets three:1. The narrative assumes you’ve played the first game to conclusion. I have but it was a fair while ago; some of the lore and characters I’m expected to know is lost to the murkiness of my terrible memory. If you haven’t played the first game, there’s almost no hand-holding; go and read the Wiki.2. For some reason, climbing, is more fiddly instead of more intuitive. Aloy spends a lot of time scaling huge structures and Forbidden West somehow manages to make it more difficult.3. It’s just more complicated than it needs to be. There are dozens of context sensitive commands such as, “If you’re riding X does this, if you’re not, it does this instead”. I think the designers have taken it a step further than they need to have done in terms of detail and micro-management.If you have not played Zero Dawn, buy that now, play it to death then get stuck into Forbidden West.

Given that I 100%’d Horizon Zero Dawn, I was looking forward to Forbidden West. The game has delivered, although we needed to wait for multiple patches for the game to be perfected. Now with VRR support up to 120Hz and hundreds of bugfixes later, there’s also New Game + mode. The story is fun, with a huge world to explore. Quests can get repetetive but if you alternate between quests / story and simply travelling the game world, it will easily provide many hours of fun. Personally I’ve spent over 120h in the game and I’ve only finished around 75% of its content. If you don’t like robo-dinosaurs and post-apocalyptic future (and/or open-world games) though, it might not be for you.

Delivered fast and safe, and I won’t complain too heavily about the premium for the PS5 version. That’s just Sony grubbing for money ultimately. The game is fantastic, though. Outshines many other open world games from the last few years, including any of the Assassins Creeds. It isn’t tied into realism the way that RDR2 was, but it comes close to that with its incredibly varied environments and the crazy level of detail in the animation. The facial performances are seriously what you’d expect from next gen.The story is sprawling in its own way, but tight enough to not leave you fatigued. You unlock different tools and abilities that open up the world at a decent pace, and the traversal mechanics are really great. From riding mounts, to climbing, swimming and…ah…even more you unlock further into the game!I could barely remember much from the first Horizons games, but this one does a great job of filling you in. The development of the characters is cinematic and thoughtful. Well worth the 50 hours or so I put into it!
