Joysurjya Hagjer –
Do NOT compare it to the Apple Watch!!I have been using the watch/activity band for over a week now and here are my unfiltered thoughts -Build Quality – The casing is plastic but doesn’t feel cheap at all. Feels solid on my wrist. The strap could be a little wider and of better quality. Hopefully we get 3rd party straps in the future.Display – The AMOLED screen is great. Super bright indoors and decently bright outdoors. The adaptive brightness works well and fast. The screen is decently responsive and has shown no lag to any of my swipes or gestures. The screen wakes as soon as I raise my hand and sleeps when I lower it.Tracking (updated) – The heart rate sensor is still decently accurate. The calorie tracker and workout sensor have also worked really well for me. The step tracker I have noticed gives false readings with a margin error of 10-20%. I mainly used the watch while running or exercising but now when I wear it casually as well, I notice the step counter functions even when I just move my arms about. The SP02 sensor shows decent readings but I wouldn’t bet on it so much, it is entirely a gimmick in my opinion. I have not tried the sleep tracker but many say it does not work well.Battery life (updated) – From a full charge, with normal usage daily and with always-on-display, the watch has lasted me around 6 days of use from a 100% charge. The claimed 10 days might work without the AOD. I run and workout in the morning and my most active hours range from 1 to 1.5 hours a day with the rest of the day being normal.Workout Modes – Running mode detects calories well. I checked with other apps on my phone and the calorie tracking is good.Received an UPDATE from Huawei to fix the notifications and optimise some screen issues with watch face.VERDICT – I would not recommend this watch for a lot of people. The display is best in this segment. I mainly need the Amoled display to see when I run out in the sun. Most ‘smartwatches or bands’ below 5K segment are barely usable out in the daylight because of a bad reflective screen. If anyone is working indoors, then Fitbit or amazfit bip series is more than enough. Please wait for a further long term review.

This has been my very first smart watch, although I was thinking to buy one from a long time but the prices of a few and the features offered by few top brands did not fit my budget and needs. Recently when the unlock was announced I thought its the right time to get back to the fitness mode and started looking for some better options in smart watch. When you want to be fit and want to track each and every moment and also get some tips and suggestions for betterment you look for a personal trainer. And this smartwatch by HONOR offers you the same. I have been using it for a month now and here’s my detailed review on it.Some features that I’m personally fond of are:1. 12 Animated courses. With its 44 (total) animated exercises which also includes Full body stretch , it helps you to be active and engaged at anytime. Aimed to help reduce stress and loosen body tension while working, the watch provides brief exercise trainings which users can perform at home. Moreover, the 44 animated moves provide accurate gesture demonstration on how to properly complete an exercise ranging from moderate to rigorous.2. Exercise with 95 Workout ModesTo indulge users’ passion for different sports, the HONOR Watch ES supports 85 customized workout modes and 10 professional fitness modes that together covers a wide range of sports from traditional to more experimental, outdoor to indoor and summer to winter. Although I do not use all the modes but they are useful when one indulges in a particular workout mode. The modes offer precise key data such as heart rate, calories burnt, duration and different modes monitor different data that are tailored for that particular workout.3. Automatic Workout RecognitionI feel this is the best feature to fall for. At times in hurry I forget to tap on my running workout mode but the watch utilizing the optical heart rate sensor and accurate sport algorithm detects the workout type and reminds you for tracking. Isn’t this the best one? :)4. TruSleep RecognitionFor fitness it is very important to have a sound sleep and Honor Watch ES helps you to track accurate sleep during any time of the day and also helps you to cover the sleep target with its tips and suggestions when checked on its Health app. I sometimes take a nap of 30 mins to complete my sleep and its good if you take it before 1pm as per the app. :)Apart from all these features it does offers other basic features like notifications, SpO2, Continues heart rate monitor and many basic ones. Although what I dint like is the options for Watch Faces, though many, they are very repetitive and also a few are chargeable by Huawei. It does not have inbuilt GPS, cant answer a call, you can control mobile played music but cannot store music in the watch. But if you want all these features in a smart watch why have a smart phone then. ;)Anyways I hope you find this review very useful and you make a right choice as per your usability and needs. My needs are fulfilled by this watch and I’m very much used it now. Thank you for giving it a read.

I ordered the Honor Watch ES back in January. I am writing this review after around 45 days of regular usage. Amazon efficiently delivered it within a day, in crisp condition. All brownie points to Amazon’s service and their professional delivery guys. Why I chose the Honor Watch ES:I suffer from severe allergies that lead to Asthma, so I always need a decent device to generally monitor my health on the go. I recently switched back to Android, with a Samsung Galaxy S20+, after using iOS for 4.5 years. I was using the Apple Watch Series 3 before this. Obviously, my switch to Android made my Apple Watch literally useless and redundant. So I went for the Honor Watch ES as it offered a unique design and is somewhat a hybrid between a smartband and a smartwatch. This is exactly what I was looking for and it was well within my budget. (Watch ES is compatible with both Android & Apple devices). What’s in the Box (picture attached):1) The watch2) A pogo magnetic charger3) PaperworkWhat I Liked:1) The Design & Display:The 1.64″ AMOLED display is big, beautiful, crisp and detailed (with very narrow bezels). It packs a pixel density of 326 ppi, which is the same as the Apple Watch Series 6. It also comes with adaptive brightness and an always-on display (although this will drain the battery). I personally loved the unique tall, rectangular design. Since it’s big and I have slender wrists, I thought it would be bulky and heavy. I was pleasantly surprised to find that its actually pretty sleek (10.7mm thick) and extremely lightweight (21g without the strap). You can barely feel it so it can easily be worn all day. Also, the strap is a changeable regular watch strap (20mm with quick-release lugs) and is the most comfortable to wear. 100 points to Honor for the overall design! I received quite a few compliments for this watch.2) Health Monitoring:As a healthcare professional myself, I was very cynical about the health monitoring capabilities of this watch. Honor really surprised me here. The Heart Rate monitor is very accurate and quite quick. It is on par with my Apple watch and fingertip oximeter. It offers continuous Heart Rate monitoring and picks up changes very quickly. It also alerts you as soon as the HR goes beyond a reference value. The Sleep Tracker (TruSleep) is also surprisingly accurate! It managed to track even my random little naps with great precision. It is important to note that their sleep technology is actually certified by the Center for Dynamical Biomarkers at Harvard Medical School. It is accurate at measuring awake & sleep times but struggles with in-depth sleep stage tracking (light, REM, deep sleep). The watch also has great stress, breathing and menstrual cycle(I believe they can improve this) trackers. The SpO2 monitoring is mostly a hit and miss, so take it with a pinch of salt. This is the case with most watches since SpO2 is best measured at the fingertips. Of course, the health features on these wearable devices should not be used as medical advice (unless it is a medical-grade device).3) Fitness:The step counter is pretty accurate too. Again, it matched the readings on my Apple Watch.Although I haven’t tried all the sports modes, the watch seems to be pretty good on this front too. It has insane 95 workout modes, which include yoga, cricket, tai chi, belly dancing, outdoor walks, etc. It also has 12 animated workout courses, which are pretty cool and fun (attached short clip). When you’ve been sitting for too long, it prompts you to stand up and an animation then guides you to do some basic stretches. It also has the ability to detect workouts smoothly. What I Didn’t Like:1) Connectivity Issue:I am extremely annoyed by the fact that the watch disconnects from my S20+ when I move a little away. I have to manually connect it all over again from the Huawei Health App. Luckily it notifies me every time it disconnects. Also, I didn’t like that the watch doesn’t auto-connect to my phone as soon as I turn Bluetooth on. I suspect this does not occur on Honor/Huawei phones.2) Remote Camera Shutter works only on Honor/Huawei phones. This is ridiculous! This is a very basic (and useful) feature. Honor really needs to fix this.3) No GPS: It doesn’t really matter to me as I don’t go for outdoor runs, but I am mentioning it here since it may be an important factor for some people. It can connect to your phone’s GPS (only through the Huawei Health App). Also, I’m not sure if this is a deciding factor, but Honor has recently been sold by Huawei to Shenzhen Zhixin.Overall, I really loved this watch. I feel it’s quite underrated. It was the best fit for me at this price and serves it’s purpose pretty well. If you are considering this watch, just go for it.Update: Solved connectivity issue – On doing some research, I found that granting GPS permissions through the Huawei Health App fixes the problem. Earlier the watch would disconnect the moment I moved to another room without my phone. Now, this is completely solved. It also auto-connects properly after this fix.

First pricing, I bought it in some sale and with a card discount it cost me Rs. 4247.Second, it is not a smartwatch..it is a large-sized awesome fitness tracker. Now let’s get right into the pros and cons.Pros:1. All the sensors and data available on/through the device be it SPO2, heart rate monitor, pedometer, REM are as accurate as they can get at the current level of technology, I have done a proper comparison with the Apple Watch 6 and the results are pretty much the same. But remember this is not a medical device, a smartwatch is not an alternative to an Oximeter.2. The number of sports modes available on the device is so many that you’ll be motivated to try at least some of the sports. The guided workouts option is a big bonus.3. The built quality of the device is really good and the AMOLED display is just gorgeous and large enough to go with any attire. The rubber strap is comfortable to wear, and with only 21g of weight you don’t really feel anything on your hand, I wear this watch for over 22hrs a day, and it’s super comfortable.4. The Health app is pretty good, provides you enough data to improve your lifestyle.5. For a large screen device the battery life is decent, it lasts me 8 days with heart rate monitor off and REM on. Also, the quick charging is pretty useful, even with an old charger it goes from 0-80% in 20 minutes.6. It’s 5ATM waterproof so you can go swimming or just take a shower with it, no problem.7. The Reenergize feature is my favorite. If you sit idle for more than an hour then the device starts vibrating and asks you to do some fun easy exercises to reenergize your mind n body. Now Cons:1. As mentioned above, this is not a smartwatch. You get all the notifications like messages, emails, calls but you can’t reply to any text or make calls using the watch.2. No GPS, at this price there are some brands that offer GPS in their fitness trackers, the main usefulness of GPS in the device is that you don’t need to carry your phone with you while running or cycling.3. The device that has all the sports you can’t even think of what it doesn’t have is a dedicated cycling mode. For that, you need to open the health app and click on the cycling option. Maybe it is to make sure people carry phones with them while cycling as the device lacks GPS.4. Few features like the remote shutter, cycling mode, etc are available for Huwaei/Honor phones only.5. The auto-detect workouts feature is a hit or miss. It takes the device quite a long to realize if I’m walking or running.6. Not expecting any feature update as Honor is almost MIA from the Indian market.Overall, this is the most balanced fitness tracker you can buy at this price. It does almost everything it advertises, looks good even with formals, has solid sensors, and it might just make you active.I’m personally not a sporty guy but for the last 6 months, my attitude towards health and fitness has improved a lot because of this watch. It keeps me motivated.PS: Almost all these features are available with Honor Band 5 too at half the price. It’s just that Honor watch ES looks much better.
